Thu, 6/4: 8:00 AM  - 12:00 PM
Professional Development Course
Georgia World Congress Center - Building B

CM Credit Hours: 3.5

Bioaerosol investigations usually do not require sampling. Sampling is an essential addition to visual investigation when identification of specific agents is required and identification requires cultural or genetic analysis. This course will provide information on how to design sampling strategies for collecting data that addresses hypotheses related to bioaerosol agents. Hypothesis development will be discussed, followed by specific information and discussion regarding steps in strategy development and, for each strategy, information on specifics of sampling, sample analysis, and data interpretation.

*Please note: Only participants registering for two (2) half-day PDCs on the same day will receive a box lunch.

**Please note: power strips will not be provided at each attendee's seat; however, charging stations for laptops will be provided in each course room.

Course Outline

• Specific Agents and their Related Illnesses
• Development of Testable Hypotheses
• Steps in Strategy Development
• Analytical Results and Data Interpretation
• How Should the Results be Presented to the Client

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

• Describe the organisms of interest related to each investigation.
• Detail the environmental and analytical conditions required for growth.
• Develop hypotheses for testing each situation.
• Establish investigation strategies for testing each hypothesis.
• Interpret resulting data to both professionals and lay clients.
• Write concise reports to convey outcomes to lay clients as well as physicians, attorneys and others.

Attendees should have basic knowledge of bioaerosol investigations, including visual inspection, and knowledge of potential bioaerosol sources.

Business Case/IH Value Statement

Accurate bioaerosol assessment remains limited. This course will increase the range of assessments and the accuracy and value of the data recovered.
