Common Core State Standards provide an unusual opportunity for reading/language arts and mathematics to do more than co-exist in the elementary grades. Teachers in these disciplines, implementing both sets of standards together, will find natural connections if they are willing to work toward the truly common goal of educating students. Examples at different grade levels will be shared in this National Council of Teachers of Mathematics sponsored session.
